Machinex introduces its new division, Machinex Deposit

May 29, 2023 – It is with pride that Machinex introduces its new division, Machinex Deposit, a provider of technologies and tailored solutions for the collection of deposit containers.

Machinex Deposit’s commitment is not only to support the modernization of the deposit system in Quebec but also to actively participate in defining and implementing an adequate, technological, and efficient collection network for citizens, retailers, and the AQRCB.

Under the supervision of the AQRCB, we have been one of the main partners in pilot projects aimed at validating innovative recovery concepts, and assessing citizen behavior towards these new approaches, while collecting the necessary information to develop a high-performing and sustainable deposit collection model.

Among the deposit container recovery pilot projects set up in eight cities of the province, the Machinex Deposit model was the only one to offer the deployment of a mobile application “ConsignExpress” and electronic refunds for bag deposits. Users from the St-Roch and Limoilou neighborhoods, where the bag drops were located, and the employees of the Machinex factory in Plessisville, where the counting center was located, greatly appreciated this approach.

We are thrilled to see that this project was a success and that participation was high. At the end of the pilot project, we surveyed participants to see if they would use this service again, and the vast majority affirmed that this type of return point indeed has its place in a modernized system.

We also installed a kiosk located in Victoriaville, which experienced significant foot traffic. In collaboration with other stakeholders, this pilot helped us better define the benefits as well as the logistical challenges surrounding the operation of a deposit material collection facility outside participating businesses.

In addition to the pilot projects, it’s worth noting that Machinex Deposit has several RVMs currently in operation at certain retailers in the Montreal metropolitan area for nearly 18 months.
