MACHINEX HOSTS AI-INTEGRATED RECYCLING FACILITY VIRTUAL VISIT AT THE 2024 IFAT

PLESSISVILLE – May 6th, 2024 – Machinex, a renowned leader in recycling technology, invites attendees of the 2024 IFAT Tradeshow booth B5.335/434 to embark on a virtual tour of one of its latest recycling facilities, showcasing state-of-the-art automation including artificial intelligence (AI) integration.

The new Material Recovery Facility (MRF), operated by Sherbourne Recycling Limited, started operating in the fall of 2023, and stands as the most advanced MRF of its kind in the UK and among the leading recycling facilities worldwide.  With a design featuring 14 sorting robots and 14 optical sorters, Machinex’s newest facility represents the pinnacle of innovation and efficiency in recycling operations. Notably, it stands as one of the pioneering installations worldwide to seamlessly integrate AI technology into its core system and integrating interconnectivity principles.

Operating at a remarkable throughput of 47.5 metric tons per hour, the facility boasts unparalleled performance of 99% purity on all targeted commodities while maintaining an exceptionally low level of manpower, requiring only five manual sorters in operations. Jonathan Ménard, Executive VP of Sales and Strategy at Machinex, remarked, “This milestone is a token of Machinex’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Through years of research and development, we’ve integrated artificial intelligence into our sorting solutions, leveraging data-driven insights to drive operational efficiency.”

“The realization of the MRF of the future has been a long-discussed ambition within our industry,” Ménard added. “Today, we proudly affirm that Machinex has transformed this vision into reality, further solidifying our position as pioneers in the recycling industry.”

“Technology allows us to be more flexible, more future-proof, it allows us to plan ahead for changes in legislation, for economic drivers, or for the way households change their habits.  You need flexibility, you need the ability to grow, and you need data to be able to base those decisions on what you are going to do in the future.  And that is only achievable with the technology we are using. I think that is what is exciting about this project, it allows us to grow and develop as the waste management industry grows and develops,” says Richard Dobbs of Sherbourne Recycling.

Machinex’s latest facility exemplifies its dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology and sustainability, reaffirming its status as a global leader in recycling solutions.  Don’t miss the chance to witness the future of recycling firsthand.  Join Machinex at the 2024 IFAT Tradeshow booth B5.335/434  and experience the MRF of the Future.
